BC Rugby Hall of Fame Announced:
To be housed in the historic Brockton Pavilion
Victoria, B.C. – The history of rugby in British Columbia dates back to the 1870’s when local Victoria athletes and sailors from British ships competed in Esquimalt. Since then much has changed with the game, but the proud tradition of being a part of BC Rugby has remained. In recognition of this tradition, and of those individuals who have had a positive and substantial impact on rugby in British Columbia, the British Columbia Rugby Union announced the launch of the British Columbia Rugby Hall of Fame.
The location for the British Columbia Rugby Hall of Fame will be situated in one of the true historical gems of BC Rugby, the Brockton Pavilion, Vancouver. Brockton Oval, adjacent to the Pavilion, has played host to some the greatest international rugby fixtures to be contested on North American soil. The Brockton facilities are located in the heart of Stanley Park and provide picture-perfect setting for the Hall of Fame.
The Brockton Society has agreed to provide the ground-level room of the Pavilion to house the Hall of Fame.
"We look forward to enhancing the historic value of Brockton by having the Hall of Fame in the Pavilion," said Gary Greer, President of the Brockton Society. "This initiative is good for rugby and the community."
The design and construction for the BC Rugby Hall of Fame will begin early in the New Year and details on nominating individuals to the Hall will be released at that time. The inaugural induction ceremony is planned for March 2005. For more information, follow:
